Mix up the tiles then deal 3 to each player. Place the remaining lake tiles within reach of all players. In Lanterns players take turns playing lake tiles to the middle of the table the lake and collecting lanterns cards based on the resulting patterns.
You can dedicate 4 of a single color card, 4 pairs of any color cards, or 1 of each color. Each of those options has a stack of associated tiles with values in descending order.
The sooner you can claim the most valuable tiles, the better for your final score. As an additional challenge some of the dedication tokens have dots in the lower corner indicating that they should be removed based on the number of players in the game.
Players also have the option of trading in 2 favor tokens and a card of any color , for a card of a selected color. This must be done before any other part of your turn and gives you the ability to collect that one missing card from a set.
The number of Lake tiles used in a game also depends on the number of players. Each player also collects a lantern tile corresponding to the color on the starting Lake tile facing their direction to begin the game.
Each stack of Dedication tiles specifies the type of set needed to claim a tile. The options are: Four of a Kind 4 of same color , Three Pair 2 each of any 3 different colors , and Seven Unique 1 of every color.
This is the main objective in the game as players race to claim the most-valuable Dedication tiles first.
Although the colors on each side of the touching Lake tiles do not need to match, the active player will benefit by doing so.
If the color on any side of the newly place Lake tile does match the color on an adjacent tile, the active player will collect that color Lantern card from the supply.
I'd be interested to play with four players, and especially three, as I feel the increased competition for tiles makes for a much stronger game. Recommended, looking forward to more plays.
So, easy to learn and some good depth. My 11 year old loves strategy games and didn't want to play this because it seemed too easy or too light.
To be clear this is not a deep strategy game, but it has enough that my year-old really like it and asks to play it. My wife says: a chill game that has a bit of competition to it.
On a random turn you collect one card Cards are used to make sets. Sets award points like in rummy and your competitors do as well.
Where the strategy is that with planning and a bit of luck you can have turns where you collect 2, 3, 4, and in rare cases 5 cards while your competitors just collect the one.
That's the fun. Setting yourself up in a way where you're turning sets in every turn and your competitors cannot. Fun simple strategy game.
The artwork is beautiful. Once you read the directions, it's pretty easy to understand. I think my 7 year old could play it, but she wouldn't get the different types of strategy you could use to beat your opponent in the end.
My wife and I enjoy it and I've enjoyed it in a group too. It's one of the better games out there in terms of strategy games for people who aren't into the ones that take hours and involve really deep-seeded strategy to it.
Lanterns is a really fun little game that doesn't take long to play. It's easy to learn and to teach to others.
You do compete against others but it's not an overly competitive game. The more relaxed aesthetics really help with that. Speaking of the game also looks marvelous.
All of the tiles you play with have great art with vibrant colors. So not only is it an enjoyable and easy game to play, it also looks great too.
It's also not much in terms of price either. This is one you can also easily play with your family or kids. Get fast answers from reviewers. Please make sure that you are posting in the form of a question.
Please enter a question. Need customer service? The red dedication requires 4 of the same color lanterns. Blue requires 3 pairs of different colors.
The green dedication requires one of each color lantern. When you turn in cards, they go back to the table in the correct pile.
Lastly, you must place a lake tile. You select a lake tile from your hand and place it next to a tile on the table. If you match any colors to a tile already played, you get that color lantern card.
If you play a tile card with a platform and match a color or match a color to a platform, you get that color lantern card and a favor token.
Since there are limited lantern cards in a game, it is possible to not get certain colors if players deplete a pile. The game ends after the last lake tile is drawn and placed.
Where you want to be the first to make dedications, but not make all the same dedications due to the points going down. What do I think of this game?
The components are well done. I like how the tiles and tokens feel. In Imperial China, the harvest season has just ended.
Before the farm workers can enjoy the literal fruits of their labor, it is time for the Festival of the Lanterns, celebrating the harvest!
During the festival, families and friends gather at the edge of a huge lake to watch as artisans release hundreds of colorful lanterns across the surface of the water.
As one of those artisans, you must compete with your fellow craftsmen to put on the best display and earn the most honor before the end of the festival!
Lanterns: The Harvest Festival is a set collection game, where players add tiles to an ever-growing lake in order to claim the titular Lantern cards.
By collecting certain sets of different cards, a player can gain points by showing his or her Dedication to the craft. Will you be the most dedicated and honorable artisan?
There are only a few different kinds of components to keep track of in Lanterns.
